Ulster, Dutchess report new pandemic deaths

Four more die of virus in Dutchess County

Ulster County reported two new COVID-19deaths, while Dutchess County recorded four more deaths due to the pandemic.

The Ulster and Dutchess County COVID-19 dashboards on Saturday reported a total of six additional deaths from COVID-19, along with a total of 352 new cases.

Ulster reported two deaths, bringing the county’s total fatalities since March to 173; and Dutchess reported four additional deaths, bringing the total there to 290.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, New York state’s Department of Health reported one additional death from the virus at the Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center in Kingston, bringing that facility’s total to 16. It was not immediatel­y clear whether the additional Golden Hill death, or two others there that were reported by the state on Friday, Jan. 15, have been included in the county numbers.

The Ulster County COVID dashboard reported 155 new diagnoses on Saturday among the most recent 2,078 tested, a rate of 7.4%. The county currently has 2,216 residents with active cases of COVID.

Ulster has had 8,088 active cases of COVID diagnosed since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 5,699 have recovered.

Dutchess County’s COVID dashboard reported 197 new cases on Saturday and a seven-day rolling positivity average of 9.13%. Dutchess currently has 2,359 residents with active cases of COVID.

Dutchess has had 15,873 cases of COVID diagnosed since the start of the pandemic and, of those, 13,224 have recovered.

In the schools

Newly reported COVID cases in area school districts include:

• Five cases in Kingston schools: One on-site student and two on-site teachers at Kingston High School, one on-site staff member at J. Watson Bailey Middle School and one on-site teacher at Harry L. Edson Elementary School. There were also two recovered cases.

• Two cases in Highland schools: One off-site student and one on-site staff member.

• Three cases in Saugerties schools: One off-site student at the junior high,

and two off-site students and one off-site teacher at the high school.

• Four off-site students at the Ellenville Elementary School.

• Three cases in Marlboro schools: One on-site student and one on-site staff member at the elementary school, and one on-site student

at the middle school.

• One case in Pine Plains schools: An off-site student at the Seymour Smith Intermedia­te Learning Center.

• One case in Red Hook Schools: An on-site staff member at the middle

school.

• One case in Rhinebeck: An off-site student at the high school.
