SAUGERTIES–Walter G. Frey, Sr., 86, of 501 Commons Lane, died on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at his home, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y. on Jan. 9, 1935 to the late Carl J. and Catherine Frey. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and proudly served his country from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1957. He married his beloved wife, Joan L., on Oct. 24, 1959. In 1969, he and his wife, Joan, moved to Saugerties and raised their family. He was predecease­d by his wife, Joan. An avid outdoorsma­n, he loved hunting and salt-water shing and was affectiona­tely known to many as “Old Salt”. A truly kind soul, he always left you with his signature phrase, “I’ll see you when I look at you!” Survivors include his daughter, Lori Ann Frey, with whom he resided; a son, Walter G. Frey, Jr., of Venice, Florida; his beloved cousin, John Schmid (Marina), of Germantown; a sister, Marie Peluso, of Yonkers, a brother-in-law, Robert T. VanTassell, Jr., of Alabama; several nieces, nephews and grandniece­s and nephews. He was predecease­d by his brother, Carl J. Frey. His Funeral Procession will form 9:45 Wednesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, cor. of John and Lafayette St., Saugerties, thence to St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church where a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Christophe­r Berean, pastor. Burial will follow in the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Saugerties. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with face covering and social distancing mandates observed. Memorial contributi­ons may be made in Walter’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
