The Saugerties Stallions announced that former Yankee and Met Shane Spencer will be joining their coaching staff.

The Saugerties Stallions added to their championship pedigree of a coaching staff Thursday with the announcement that former New York Yankee Shane Spencer will be joining the team.

Spencer, who turned 49 last month, was on the Yankees when they won three consecutive World Series championships in 19982000.

“Our main goal is to build the strongest coaching staff ever assembled in summer baseball and this is a large foundation piece,” Stallions owner Kevin Hinchey said of the hiring of Spencer.

The hiring comes on the heels of the Stallions announcing the hiring of Rich Dubee as pitching coach three weeks ago. Dubee was with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2005-13, including the 2008 championship season when he coached Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt and Joe Blanton.

Spencer went to three World Series with the Yankees and also played with the Texas Rangers and Cleveland. He retired after spending the 2004 season with the New York Mets.

He was hitting coach for the Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, the Lake Elsinore Storm, and was a coach for the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League in 2013. From 2015-19, he was manager of the Goyang Heroes minor league team in the Korea Baseball Organization.

The Stallions, who compete in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, are scheduled to start their 2021 season on June 3. The 2020 campaign was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
