A 38-year-old was shot in Midtown Kingston early Sunday afternoon in the latest of what has been a spate of shootings in the city this year.

Kingston Detective Lt. Thierry Crozier said the victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the shooting. No details about the victim’s condition were available late Sunday afternoon.

Crozier also said police had not made an arrest in the shooting and that the investigation was ongoing.

Police had cordoned off a portion of Liberty Street between Broadway and Prospect Street and several crime scene evidence markers could been seen on Liberty Street.

Kingston detectives and state police investigators, along with Ulster County Sheriff’s Office personnel, were still at the scene at midday.

No additional details were available.

Sunday’s shooting was the fifth incident of gunfire in Midtown since Feb. 27.

On March 17, Raymond D. Robinson, 19, shot himself with another man’s gun at 358 Broadway in Midtown Kingston in what police believe was an accidental shooting. Robinson died the following day. Oryin Leonard, 20, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, in connection with that case.

On March 11, a 31-yearold, whose name was not provided, was shot in the right arm at about 10:30 p.m. while he was on a porch at 79 Elmendorf St.

On March 1, shots were fired in the parking lot alongside the CSX railroad tracks between Smith and Railroad avenues. Two days earlier, on Feb. 27, several shots were fired on Elmendorf Street near Broadway.

On Dec. 17, 2020, 12-year-old D’Janeira Mason was struck and fatally wounded after shots were fired into her family’s apartment at 60 Van Buren St. Her 10-year-old brother, Dasane, suffered a gunshot wound to an arm.

Two men, Robert Nikia “Nikki” James, 46, and Gilbert Thomas, 24, were arrested in connection with that case and face charges that include second-degree murder.

There also was an Elmendorf Street shooting on Oct. 7, 2020, in which a man was struck in the back and left leg. Two men have been indicted for attempted murder in that case.
