Shooting at restaurant leaves man injured

A shooting Saturday night at the Órale Mexican restaurant left a man with non-life-threatenin­g injuries, authoritie­s said.

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. » A shooting in a restaurant Saturday night left one person wounded, according to authoritie­s.

The shooting took place at the ”rale Mexican restaurant at 11 Old Route 299 at about 9:30 p.m. There were several people inside the eatery at the time of the incident.

A press release issued by the New Paltz Police Department said a preliminar­y investigat­ion indicated that an altercatio­n started inside the restaurant and a shot was fired, striking a 59-yearold man.

The release said the victim was taken to an area hospital by New Paltz Rescue Squad with non-lifethreat­ening injuries. Further informatio­n on his condition was unavailabl­e.

Transmissi­ons heard on a police scanner said a man had been shot in the foot and that the person suspected of being the shooter was held down by restaurant patrons.

The New Paltz Police Department press release said the investigat­ion is continuing and there is no danger to the public. It added that additional informatio­n about the investigat­ion is not being released at this time.

Investigat­ors did not provide any word on a motive.

The department is being assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, state police, the SUNY New Paltz Police Department and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
