Candidates file petitions for town races
Democratic and Working Families candidates have filed petitions for town races across Ulster County. Republicans at the town level did not file petitions.
Republicans and Democrats in towns that did not choose to use a petition process have until July 22 to conduct caucuses.
While the filing deadline was on Thursday, Ulster County Board of Elections officials are waiting to see whether challenges are filed against Democratic petitions for primary ballot slots in towns where the party has opted against holding a caucus.
Democratic challenges have until 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Working Families candidates have also filed petitions but authorization from state party officials is needed by 6 p.m. Monday.
Tentative ballots for Democratic and Working Families primary races are:
• Esopus: Councilman Christopher Farrell, Working Families, and Councilwoman Catherine Quick, Working Families, are seeking reelection and Laura Robinson, Working Families, is seeking to fill an unexpired Town Board term.
• Hurley: For Working Families, incumbent Michael Boms and Susan Robinson are seeking Town Board seats; Lynne Baily is seeking the clerk/ tax collector line; Councilwoman Melinda McKnight is seeking the supervisor line; and incumbent Highway Superintendent Michael Shultis is seeking reelection.
• Marbletown: Democratic candidates are Matthew Ryan Cline and Jeannie Werber, seeking Town Board seats; Timothy Hunt, seeking an unexpired Town Board seat; and Supervisor Richard Parete and Jacob Sherman, seeking the supervisor line. Working Families candidates are Sherman, Benjamin Hikade and Andrew Parete, son of the current supervisor, seeking the supervisor line.
• Marlborough: Democrats will have Councilman Howard Baker and William Hughes seeking Town Board seats; and Supervisor Alphonso Lanzetta seeking reelection. He will also be on the Working Families line.
• New Paltz: Democrats Daniel Torres and Stanalea Weisburd are seeking Town Board seats; Highway Supervisor Christopher Marx is seeking reelection; and Supervisor Neil Bettez is seeking reelection. Bettez is also seeking the Working Families endorsement.
• Olive: Democrats seeking reelection are Town Board members Scott Kelder and Victoria Read, Highway Superintendent Brian Burns, Supervisor James Sofranko, Clerk/ Tax Collector Dawn Giuditta, and incumbent Justice Timothy Cox. Read is also seeking the Working Families endorsement.
• Rochester: Democrat running are incumbent Clerk/Tax Collector Kathleen Gundberg; Michael
Coleman, Charlotte Knapp and Robert Kilpert seeking Town Board seats; Renee Albaugh seeking the justice line; Highway Superintendent Jeffrey Frey seeking reelection; and Beatrice Haugen-Depuy and incumbent Mike Baden seeking the supervisor line.
• Saugerties: Democrats seeking Town Board seats are Kevin Freeman, Nina Schmidbaur, Diedre Miller, Lauren Marcello Ruberg, Kayleigh Zaloga, and Timothy Scott; incumbent Supervisor Fred Costello is seeking reelection; and Julie Dunn seeking election the clerk and tax collector line. Working Families crossover are Schmidbaur, Scott, and Ruberg seeking Town Board seats and Costello.
• Shandaken: Working Familes candidates are Angel Molina, seeking a Town Board seat and incumbent Peter Dislafani seeking reelection.
• Wawarsing: Working Families candidates are Leonard Distel Jr. seeking a Town Board seat; and Arkady Aleksandryants and Andrew Faust on the supervisor line.
• Woodstock: Democrats are Scott Bonestell, seeking the highway superintendent line; Mariaelena Conte, Howard Harris and Bennet Ratcliff seeking Town Board seats; incumbent Justice Richard Husted seeking reelection; and incumbent Supervisor Bill McKenna seeking reelection. Working Familes candidates are Conte, Ratcliff, and Husted.
