New Paltz boys, FDR girls dominate four-team meet

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. » New Paltz High’s boys and the Roosevelt girls swept a MidHudson Athletic League, four-team cross country meet Tuesday that also included Wallkill and Saugerties.

Roosevelt capitalize­d on on incomplete teams to score 15-50 wins in the girls meet. Saugerties’ Marcy Candlin won the race in 21:32, beating Roosevelt’s Ashleigh Villano by nine seconds.

New Paltz went 3-0 in the boys meet, defeating Roosevelt 20-41, Saugerties 1647 and Wallkill 15-0. Roosevelt beat Saugerties 19-42 and Wallkill 15-0. The Panthers also lost 15-50 to the Sawyers.

Riley Brutvan led the Huguenots, winning the race in 125:48.

Mount Academy sweeps

At Esopus, host Mount Academy went 4-0 in a meet that featured Red Hook, Marlboro, Rondout Valley and Highland.

Mount beat Red Hook 15-46, Marlboro 15-58 and both Rondout and Highland 15-50. The Raiders went 3-1 with a 20-42 win over Marlboro plus 15-50 decisions over Highland and Rondout. The Dukes split the day, with 15-50 wins over Highland and Rondout.

The Mount’s Nate Goodwin, Fred Goodwin, Ike Blough and Kent Kleinsasse­r placed 1-2-3-4. Marlboro’s Emma Elizondo won the girls race.

All the girls teams were incomplete. There were no team scores.
