CLERMONT- Clermont resident Richard A. Jones, 90, passed peacefully with his family by his side on April 1, 2021. Born on Jan. 10, 1931, and raised in Clayville, N.Y., Richard was the son of Alice and Alfred Jones. Richard held a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineerin­g from Syracuse University, and worked as a Product Planner for IBM in Kingston for a great number of years, where he met his future wife, Joan Davies Jones. He loved Joan more than anything in the world. They raised ve boys together in Red Hook and were married for over 50 years before she passed in 2004. Richard (or “Dick”, or “Pook”, as he was lovingly referred to) was a hardworkin­g family man who enjoyed traveling and exploring the Hudson River on his boat. In the 1970s he moved his family to Rome, Italy for work. He greatly admired Italian culture and cherished his time spent there. Dick and Joan also loved jazz music and visiting New Orleans, and at one point, spent their winters living in Florida. After leaving IBM, Dick became a self-employed Profession­al Engineer, collaborat­ing with numerous contractor­s and clients in the area. Richard is survived by his sons, Mark Jones, Timothy Jones, Richard Jones, and Peter Jones; his sister, Carol Fanning; his daughterin-law, Wendy Jones; and grandchild­ren: Emily Jones, Danial Jones, Kristen Jones, Patrick Jones, Rowan Jones, and Katie Jones, who was his devoted caretaker in his later years. He is predecease­d by his parents, Alice and Alfred; his wife, Joa; his son, Andrew Jones; his brother, Wally Jones; and his sisters, Donna Evans and Jeannie Seelman. A private ceremony and celebratio­n of Richard’s life will be held for immediate family later this spring.
