Pine Plains defeats Onteora, 28-6
PINE PLAINS, N.Y. » Big plays enabled Pine Plains/Rhinebeck to post a 28-6 victory over Onteora High Wednesday night, April 7, in a Section 9 8-man football game.
Sid Stracher rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns, Sebastian Burmester had 88 yards and also scored a pair of 2-point conversions, Andrew Speedling ran for 63 yards and a TD, and Dalton Burns had 74 yards and a touchdown receiving to lead the Bombers.
Burns caught an 8-yard TD pass and Speedling scored on a 15-yard run to build a 16-0 lead by halftime.
Onteora cut it to 16-6 just 16 seconds into the second half on Anthony Umhey’s 70-yard TD pass to Shayne Bresler. Umhey threw for 172 yards overall.
Pine Plains responded with a Burmester-to-Burns 69-yard strike that set up a Stracher 3-yard TD run. A Speeding interception a minute later led to Stracher’s 7-yard touchdown burst.
Bombers coach Robert Scott cited the offensive line of Jason Michetti, Devon Hurst, Ryan Martin and Burns with controlling the Onteora defense.
Speedling had six tackles and an interception, Logan Lydon had four tackles and a sack, Burmester made six tackles and Hurst had two sacks, six tackles and a blocked punt to lead the Bombers.
Griffin Alterio (eight tackles, six assists), Sammy Buono (seven tackles, six assists) and Nick Christofora (blocked punt, 1 ½ sacks) paced the Onteora defense.
Both teams are in action on Sunday, April 11. Pine Plains is home to Pawling in a 1 p.m. game. while Onteora goes to Dover for an 11 a.m. contest.
