Voting in primaries concludes Tuesday

KINGSTON, N.Y. » Registered Democrats and Republican­s will have one last chance Tuesday, June 28, to choose their party’s standardbe­arers in the November election.

Democrats will choose their party’s candidate for governor, lieutenant governor and the 103rd state Assembly race.

GOP voters will select candidates in the races for governor and the 106th state Assembly District.

In the 103rd state Assembly District, incumbent Assemblyma­n Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston, will face off against political newcomer Sarahana Shrestha, of Esopus, for the party line in the November general election The new 103rd Assembly District comprises the Ulster County towns of Saugerties, Woodstock, New Paltz, Kingston, Rosendale, Gardiner, Marbletown, Hurley and the town of Ulster. It also includes Rhinebeck and Red Hook in Dutchess County.

Three candidates are seeking the Democratic line for governor: Incumbent Gov. Kathy C. Hochul, who became governor last August when Andrew Cuomo stepped down amid multiple scandals; U.S. Rep. Thomas R. Suozzi, of Long Island; and New York City Public Advocate Jumanne D. Williams.

Running for the Democratic line for lieutenant governor are newly appointed Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado, a former congressma­n who replaced Brian Benjamin, who resigned in April in the midst of a public corruption scandal; New York City Councilmem­ber Diana Reya; and activist Ana Maria Archilla.

The victors in each of the races will hold the Democratic Party line in the Nov. 8 general election.

In the 106th state Assembly District, Dean Michael, of Staatsburg, and Brandon Craig Gaylord, of Chatham, are vying for the GOP line in the general elec

tion. The new 106th Assembly District comprises parts of Dutchess County, including Hyde Park, Milan and the town of Poughkeeps­ie, as well as parts of Columbia County.

Four candidates are running for the GOP line for governor. They are former Westcheste­r County Executive Rob Astorino; Andrew Guiliani, the son of Rudy Guiliani and a former special adviser to former President Donald Trump; businessma­n Harry Wilson; and U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-New Meadow.

The victors in each of those races will hold the GOP line in the Nov. 8 election.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Ulster and Dutchess counties.
