DOROTHY M. ODENWALD

-

West Shokan- Dorothy M. Odenwald, 86 of Rt. 28A died peacefully at her residence October 13, 2022 with her family at her side. She was born January 4, 1936 in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Merrill and Margaret Cahill Shew. She and her husband Richard were residents of Mt. Tremper in 1970, and moved to W. Shokan in 1973. Dorothy was the matriarch of her beloved family. She was a multi-talented individual who was way ahead of her time. One of her gifts was the ability to spin the thread of a story to keep everyone fully engaged. She was a creative artist who would paint, draw, entertain with a song, and even authored a book. A strong and resilient woman who was a risk-taker, and welcomed travel as an adventure. She enjoyed her extensive doll collection, shopping, garage sales, auctions, and tending her flower gardens. Her family was her focus. Nearly a dozen trips to Disney made for an abundance of enduring family memories.

Surviving are her daughters: Mary Ann Adels, Peggy (Edwin) Maldonado, Marian Odenwald and Maureen Odenwald, a brother: Robert Shew and sister Merrillyn Craig, as well as grandchildren: Bethanie (Chris) and Joshua; Gretchen (Sal) and Alexa, Priska and Faida, plus great grandchildren: Gavin, Addysen, Braedan and Silas. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Richard, in 2008. A Service to Celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held on Saturday Oct. 22 at 10:00 AM at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St., Phoenicia. Friends will be received on Friday October 21 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home. Burial in the family plot at the Hudler Cemetery Rt. 28 Mt. Tremper will follow the Saturday service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Olive First Aid.
