Ulster, Dutchess counties mark Veterans Day
Veterans Day is Friday, Nov. 11. Here’s a rundown of observances in Ulster County and Northern Dutchess.
Ulster County
• Kingston: Due to the dedication of a refurbished canon that will be placed on the American Legion lawn, this year’s Veterans Day ceremony will be held at the Kingston American Legion Post 150 at 18 W O’Reilly Street. The ceremony will be held on Friday, Nov.11, at 11 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in Council Chambers at City Hall. • Esopus: American Legion Post 1298 will hold a service at 11 a.m. at the veterans’ monument at the Town Hall in Port Ewen.
• Hurley: A service sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5086 will begin at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall, 10 Wamsley Place.
• Olive: The Olive American Legion Post 1627 will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Legion hall on Mountain Road in Shokan.
• Saugerties: Lamouree Hackett American Legion Post 72 will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Legion hall, 30 John St. Saugerties.
• Stone Ridge: SUNY Ulster will honor veterans on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. in Clinton Hall on the Stone Ridge campus. Hosted by SUNY Ulster’s Student Government and the SUNY Ulster Military Affiliated Club, the event will include speakers, student reflections, and musical performances. This event is free and open to the public.
Dutchess County
• The county’s official Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Dutchess County War Memorial in John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park, at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the town of Poughkeepsie. Hyde Park: A ceremony will be held, Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. It will take place at Hyde Park Town hall and is hosted by Hosted American Legion Post # 1303. • Pine Plains: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5519 and American Legion Post 426 will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, in the Legion hall, 9 N. Main St. For more information contact Point of Contact: George Keeler at (518) 398-7391.
• Red Hook: A ceremony hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7765 will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park on North Broadway. For more information, contact William Moore at (845) 758-8175.
• Rhinebeck: A ceremony hosted by Montgomery American Legion Post number 429 and the Women’s Auxiliary will be held at 11 a.m. at the Rhinebeck Cemetery, corner of Route 9 South and Mill Road. For future information, contact Dennis McGuire at (845) 656-1839.
