• SUNY Ulster’s annual Winter Concert Series returns with concerts in the Quimby Theater in Vanderlyn Hall at the college’s Stone Ridge Campus, at 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30and Dec, 8. The Nov. 30concert, directed by Vic Izo features holiday favorites like “Let it Snow,” “Silent Night” and “Bleak Midwinter.” The

Dec. 8concert features the College Chorus directed by Janet Gehres and a Mixed Instrument Ensemble directed and arranged by Greg Dinger and the Honors Recital Winners. This performance is themed around music around the world and includes “Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy,” “Gavotte en Rondeau” and “Cantate Domino.” Donations are greatly appreciated. • The Ruby Fire Department will host “Pancakes with Santa” from 8to 11a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, at the firehouse, 1214Main St., Ruby. All are welcome. Donations will be accepted.

• Poets Penelope Hyde Levine and Matthew J. Spireng will appear in a spoken word poetry reading and performance Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills at 320Sawkill Road, in the town of Ulster. Tickets are $5, masks are required.

• Lifespring: Saugerties Adult Learning Community’s Winter ’22/‘23 programming includes presentations on Dec. 7, Jan. 4 and March 1 as well as a mini-course series in February. The free programs are open to anyone interested in attending and will be held via Zoom with prior registration required. The first program is at 11am on Wednesday, Dec. 7, “Stories of Marginalized Workers on the D & H Canal,” presented by Bill Merchant, historian and curator of the D&H Canal Historical Society. • The Kiwanis Club of Kingston will present its annual senior holiday dinner on Saturday,

Dec. 3, at Pointe of Praise Church, 253 Hurley Ave., Kingston. • The Holiday Sale at the Hurley Heritage Society, 52Main St., Hurley, will take place Sunday, Nov. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will feature a variety of holiday items, collectibles, furniture, jewelry and new gifts. The sale will be set up in all the downstairs rooms of the museum and on the porch. The museum shop will also be having sales on selected items. Proceeds from the sale help fund the maintenance of the museum and fund programs throughout the year.

• Sam’s Point Educator Becca Howe-Parisio will discuss how animals make it through the harsh, cold winter months during a talk Saturday, Dec. 3, from 1to 3p.m. at the Cragsmoor Free Library, 355 Cragsmoor Road, Cragsmoor. Discover what these critters do to survive, be it hibernation, hunkering down or staying active. Participants will also learn how to look for signs of animals in winter during a short walk around the library and make plaster animal tracks to take home with them. • The Kingston Model Railroad Club’s annual open house continues Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 5p.m. through Dec. 4. This complete O-scale railroad features modern and vintage scale models of steam and diesel locomotives passing through scenery modeled after the Hudson Valley.
