Joseph J. Ranieri, 83, of Freedom Village, Pa. passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014.

Joseph was the loving husband of the late Rita (nee Dalton) Ranieri.

He was a 1949 graduate of West Catholic H.S. and a 1954 graduate of Villanova University earning a degree in Civil Engineerin­g.

He was a Chief Estimator and Project Manager in the Constructi­on Industry, an Officer in Military Constructi­on as well as a Scheduling and Claims Consultant. Joseph served 3 years as a Navy Officer, Civil Engineer Corps providing contract administra­tion services on Naval Air Stations in Texas and was also an Engineerin­g Officer of a Mobile Constructi­on Battalion (Seabee) unit in the Caribbean. Later in life, Joseph joined Mauchly Assoc., a consulting company as Senior Vice President, a company which was founded by Dr. John W. Mauchly, co-inventor of the computer. Joseph was one of the early practition­ers of the Critical Path Method, an early applicatio­n of computers to constructi­on scheduling. Towards the end of his career, Joseph served as Project Director and Director of Scheduling on major projects including assignment­s in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. He also testified as an expert witness in a constructi­ons claim’s dispute. Joseph then served as a constructi­on arbitrator, conducted training seminars around the country and lectured before industrial and scientific groups.

After his retirement in 1993, Joseph enjoyed walking, sports, his personal computer and photograph­y.

Surviving are three daughters: Jane (John) Pratt, Susan (Karl) Rentsch & Mary Alice (Richard) Cross; nine grandchild­ren and five great grandchild­ren.
