Albert L. Smith, 88, of Exton, formerly of Canton, passed away Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at his home.

Born on July 7, 1926 in Troy, he was the son of late Harold and Eva Smith.

Al was affiliate member of the Ecumenical Parish church in Canton, and the Lakeside Presbyteri­an Church in West Palm Beach, Fla.

He retired in 1991, as a profession­al administra­tor with the Boy Scouts of America. His career with the BSA saw him serving Scout Councils in Pittsburgh, Sunbury and Reading in Pa., Wilmington in Del., and Syracuse and Long Island in N.Y. He also served two terms as a member of the Regional Staff of the National Council, BSA. At the time of his retirement he was the Council Executive Officer of the Valley Forge Council in Pa.

He resided during the winter months in Lake Worth, Fla., spending the summer months in Canton and Exton.

Smith was a member of the Troy, Pa. Rotary Club and the Troy VFW Post 8675.

Al graduated from Troy High School in 1944, and received a BS degree from Mansfield University in 1949.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. At the time of his discharge he was first ser- geant of the 1058th MP Company in Frankfort Germany. He was recalled into military service during the Korean conflict and served as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, Calif.

Surviving are his daughters, Jill Hoffman of Wyomissing Hills, Connie Templar of Exton, Albert Smith of Mattydale, N.Y., and Todd Smith of Clarkston, Mich. He is also survived by nine grandchild­ren and 13 greatgrand­children.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred E. Smith, his brother, Larry Benson, his second wife, Marcella M. Hyde-Smith, his daughter, Donna Pyle and his grandson, Matthew Volpe.

His graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on April 25, at Glenwood Cemetery in Troy.

A reception will be held after the service at The Iron Skillet, Route 6 in Sylvania, Pa.

Memorial Donations in Al’s name may be directed to the Five Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America, 244 W. Water Street, Elmira, NY 14901. It was at this Council where he received the Eagle Scout Award in 1944.
