And now, the definitive clip ‘n’ save dictionary/glossary/handbook/whatever for friends/relatives/ coworkers/escaped convicts/whoever who are new to the often confusing landscape that is Mercer County. This is something you should keep handy as a welcome of sorts so the newcomers can hit the ground running. Somebody get some copies to the MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce, stat. Let’s begin … South: The direction you’re going when driving on I-95 South.

South: The direction you’re going when driving on I-95 North.

Quoits: What local men do when they want to drink beer but don’t feel like sitting down while they do it.

Pork roll: What you eat with egg and cheese on a roll.

Roll: Only found at Italian People’s Bakery

Champale: Not beer, not wine, not champagne, not expensive, still in production, not kidding.

Mayor: Job held by people in Mercer County before they go to jail.

Tomato Pie: Same as pizza, but different. Sauce: (see gravy) Gravy: (see sauce) Chambersbu­rg: Where you used to be able to get sauce and gravy.

Hamilton: Where people talk about how they used to get sauce and gravy in Cham- bersburg.

Robbinsvil­le: Where people move when they’ve had it with Hamilton people talking about how they used to get sauce and gravy in Chambersbu­rg.

Belmar: Hamilton east.

West Windsor: Where the Princeton train station is.

East Windsor: Somewhere thatta way.

Windsor: In Robbinsvil­le.

Bordentown: Honorary member of Mercer County.

Trenton: Not pronounced Tren-ton. Or Trent-on.

North Trenton: The north section of Trenton.

South Trenton: The south section of Trenton.

East Trenton: The east section of Trenton.

West Trenton: Ewing.

Ewing: Home of Trenton-Mercer Airport.

Princeton: The word every financial/consulting/tech business in a 30-mile radius has in their name.

Trenton Farmers Market: In Lawrence; apostrophe adverse.

Whitehorse Circle: Much like the island on “Lost,” in the sense nearly impossible to escape from.

Delaware River: Majestic body of water best enjoyed on the Pennsylvan­ia side; we put a highway there instead.
