Rosemary (Magardo) Fernandes of Coatesville

Rosemary (Magardo) Fernandes, 81, formerly of Dartmouth, Mass., passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015 in West Chester, Pa. She was the wife of Donald C. Fernandes with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, Mass., a daughter of the late Edward and Caroline (Paulo-Cardoza) Magardo, she had been a resident of Dartmouth since 1967 before moving to Pennsylvania in 2002.

Mrs. Fernandes was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1952 and Framingham State College, Class of 1956.

Mrs. Fernandes had a rewarding career as a teacher in the New Bedford public school system for 42 years, retiring in 1998. She taught at the Ottowell, Lincoln and Devalles Schools.

She was a member of the Prime Timers of St. Joseph’s Parish and the Senior Circle of Brandywine Hospital.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Joseph E. Fernandes and his wife Kathy of Downingtown; a sister, Carolyn M. Medeiros of Dartmouth; a brother, Edward Magardo Jr. of New Port Richey, Fla.; three grandchildren, David, Gregory and Sarah Fernandes; and several nieces and nephews.

Her Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Parish, 460 Manor Ave., Downingtown.
