Travel restrictions on major Chesco roadways
Motorists traveling on U.S. 202 in Chester County will encounter travel restrictions Thursday night.
Motorists traveling on U.S. 202 in Chester County will encounter travel restrictions Thursday night, Aug. 13, for line painting, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.
An alternating rolling lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound U.S. 202 between the Route 401 and Chesterbrook interchanges in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin townships, respectively, from 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, to 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14. A painting crew will place lane markings in the widened and reconstructed six-lane section of the expressway.
If postponed due to rain, the operation will take place between 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.
The line painting operation is part of the $104.4 million Section 320 project that expanded nearly four miles of U.S. 202 between the Route 252 (Swedesford Road) and Route 401 interchanges.
PennDOT opened this section to six lanes last fall. The general contractor, Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J., returned in the spring to complete post-construction “punch list” work on the rebuilt section. This project is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
In addition, weekday lane restrictions will occur this week on Route 29 (More hall Road) at the intersection with Matthews Road in East Whiteland Township from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for construction of curb ramps.
Periodic flagger controlled weekday and weeknight lane closures and brief stoppages also may occur on Route 401 (Conestoga Road) at the U.S.
202 Interchange through Friday, August 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for roadway reconstruction.
Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel and use extra care when driving through the construction zone.
Construction on U.S. 202 from north of Route 401 to U.S. 30, including work at the Route 401 Interchange, is being done by Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County. The $63.3 million contract is scheduled to finish in summer 2016.
