A quick guide on how to report your scores

The golf and tennis seasons are underway, which means it won’t be long before soccer, field hockey, volleyball and cross country follow suit.

So with the fall sports season about to kick into high gear, it’s time to remind coaches, especially the first-timers, on how to report results to the Daily Local News.

We accept results via phone or email, but we very strongly encourage the use of email if at all possible. This helps us with the spelling of names and is helpful on busy nights, of which there are many in the fall.

If you call, please DO NOT go through our switchboard. If you do, you will be sent right to voicemail.

These are the only two places you should be reporting results. Please place the email address and phone number in the front of your scorebook to have it handy.

When you email, please be sure to include the basic information (guides are below), but also any big plays, milestones, or unique circumstances. The more information you provide, the most thorough your team’s writeup can be.

Also include a phone number, if possible, should we need to contact you for additional details or questions.

We prefer that the winning team report the result, but coaches can work that out before or after the game. If you are playing a team from outside of Chester County (i.e. Garnet Valley, Lower Merion, Ridley, Boyertown, etc.) it is the responsibility of the Chester County school to report the result.

If you’re not sure, call or email us, this way you know it has been reported.

Coaches, please make sure your managers or whoever fills out your scorebook has first and last names for BOTH teams. If you use an app such as GameChanger, it does not always provide first and last names.

As for what to report, here is a guideline of the information we are seeking: BOYS AND GIRLS SOCCER, fIELD HOCKEY >> Final team score, score by periods, individual goals, assists and goalie saves for each team. GOLf >> Final team score, course and par, top five scorers in order from lowest to highest for each team. TENNIS >> Final team score, results for singles and doubles matches. CROSS COUNTY >> Final team score, course and distance, top 10 overall finishers from all teams involved with individual times. VOLLEYBALL >> Final team score, individual game scores, any pertinent highlights such as kills, digs, blocks, etc.

Because of deadline considerations, we need you to report your results as soon as possible after the game ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT. Contests that start in the afternoon (3:45 or 4 p.m.) should be reported no later than 8 p.m. Night events should be reported ASAP after the game.

We really need you to get the information to us quickly because on busy days we can have up to 60 or 70 events and that’s a lot of volume to handle and we want to be able to give your game its proper due.

We also want to make all coaches, players and fans aware of our high school website — papreplive.com. The site includes information for Delco, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery and Berks Counties in Pennsylvania and we hope it will be the most comprehensive high school site in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

However, we need your help to make that happen so please be diligent about reporting your results and we look forward to working with you this season.
