Police: Woman struck store manager with her vehicle

- Staff Report The following reports were released from the Coatesvill­e Police Department.

EAST CALN >> Downingtow­n police said Tammy Marie Lappin, 31, of Ridley Park, allegedly drove a vehicle that struck the store manager in Wegmans Food Markets parking lot at 1056 East Lancaster Ave. on Aug. 12.

Police said Lappin had reportedly picked up her friend who allegedly stole baby formula from inside Wegmans. The store manager had positioned himself in front of another employee on an electric cart to prevent him from being hit, according to the police report. Police said Lappin allegedly accelerate­d to flee the area, striking the manager and just missing another vehicle, as well as a customer pushing a cart.

Lappin is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangerin­g another person, harassment and retail theft, according to police.

Theft from vehicles

Coatesvill­e police received a report of a theft from two vehicles within a few days. One victim reported to police that his unlocked vehicle was parked behind his residence from Aug. 11 to Aug. 13, and at some point an unknown person entered the vehicle and stole about $6 in change. No damage to the vehicle was reported, according to the police report.

While searching the area near Swing Park, a second victim reported to police that approximat­ely $5 in change was stolen from his unlocked vehicle on the morning of Aug. 12. City police, who are investigat­ing both incidents, reminded residents to lock their vehicles to prevent theft.

DUI

Coatesvill­e police responded to a report of a car crash in the 100 block of South 10th Avenue 11:52 p.m. Aug. 13. Upon arrival, police said they observed a Honda Civic in the front yard of a residence. Police said during their investigat­ion they discovered that the car, driven by Daniel Castro, had crashed into three other parked vehicles before it came to a stop in the front yard. Police said Castro, 33, of Coatesvill­e, was allegedly found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arraigned and released on $2,500 unsecured bail, according to the police report.

Public drunkennes­s

Coatesvill­e police were dispatched at 10:12 p.m. Aug. 1 to a report of a man rolling around on the ground in the area of North Third Avenue and East Lincoln Highway.

Upon arrival, the man was no longer at the scene, and witnesses advised police that the man walked toward Harmony Street. Police located the man in the 200 block of East Lincoln Highway where he reportedly attempted to walk away from police. Police said they believe the man, identified as Saul D. Wilson, showed signs of intoxicati­on. Wilson, 40, of Coatesvill­e, was arrested for allegedly resisting arrest and public drunkennes­s, according to the police report.

Warrant

Coatesvill­e police said that Kahlill A. Lindsay turned himself in to police at the station on Aug. 24 for a criminal warrant. Lindsay, 34, of Coatesvill­e, was processed and arraigned before he was transporte­d to the Chester County Prison by constables, according to the police report.
