Parents looking for missing daughter

It’s been more than two weeks since Tim and Wendy Murphy last saw their daughter Amanda. After her empty car was found in an area park early Monday morning, the worried parents have started asking for the public’s help in trying to find her.

The 25-year-old’s late model brown Ford Taurus was found by North Coventry Police in a parking lot next to a pond in Kenilworth Park at about 3 a.m.

Monday, Tim Murphy said. The windows were reportedly down, there was gas in the tank and her personal effects, including a cell phone, were inside. Police did not reportedly search the area but did tell Amanda’s father to file a missing person’s report to start an official investigation.

North Coventry Police did not respond to calls for comment by press time.

Amanda, a single mother to a 6-year-old son, who is in the custody of his father, has been battling a heroin addiction for the last four years, Tim said. She’s checked in and out of eight different rehabilitation clinics. Most recently, she left a clinic against the medical advice of the staff and quit her methadone treatments cold turkey.

The Murphy family moved to Pottstown from Conshohocken in 2000. Amanda graduated Pottsgrove High School in 2009. She then attended school at the Metro Beauty Academy in Allentown before dropping out after about a year.

Amanda last saw her parents two weeks ago and had been in contact with them as recently as last week, Tim said. Her parole officer came to her parent’s home Wednesday to say their daughter had taken off again and if she didn’t check in by
