EAST MARLBOROUGH >> Thousands of people are expected to attend the 92nd annual Unionville Community Fair, set for Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 on the grounds of Landhope Farms.

“We are hoping we can get to 10,000 people this year,” said Deb Deckman, fair president. “This will be like past years, but there will be even more activities and fun things for people to do. It will be a fun time.”

The fair’s farm show has the largest display of community agricultural and home products, handcrafts and arts in Chester County, and begins Sept. 28 when local gardeners, farmers and artists drop off their entries. Most exhibitors are local residents competing for ribbons and awards. The following day, Sept. 29, is the eighth annual Denim & Diamonds dinner and fundraiser in the Red Barn on the grounds of Landhope Farms. Those who at-

tend the fundraisers get to see the entries and award winners before anyone else.

The sixth annual Willowdale Pro Rodeo is being moved this year to the Brandywine Polo field in New Garden Township. It takes place Saturday, Oct 8 at 2 p.m. at the polo grounds located at 232

Polo Road. Ticket prices are $17 for adults and $12 for those 13 and over and $12 for those ages 4 to 12. This is a PRCA-sanctioned rodeo with all the thrills of barrel racing, team roping, the rodeo clown and bull riding.

New this year will be food trucks. In addition to hundreds of exhibits, the fair will feature jugglers, a lip sync contest, cow pie bingo, a moonbounce, a little circus, Barnyard Olympics, face painting, bean bag toss, and a mechanical bull. A dairy show takes place Oct. 1 at 1 p.m., followed by a celebrity cow milking contest at 5:15 p.m.

Also, the famous Punkin Chunkin, which was rained out last year, will be featured. Fairgoers can also see a “tiny home” exhibit, where an emphasis is on sustainable living.

During all three days, a food truck from Kennett Area Food Cupboard will be on-site collecting donations.

A parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at Patton Middle School. The emcees will be Dan & Galla.

Fair hours are 9 a.m. to

9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Beneficiaries of the Unionville Community Fair this year will be the Longwood Fire Company, the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company, and Kennett Area Community Service. Last year, the fair was in jeopardy of closing because no one stepped up to fill the president and treasurer positions. But after a massive publicity campaign, Deckman of West Grove was elected president, and Jeff Lewis, treasurer. This year, the fair has a manager, Pam Eppinger, to help volunteers.
