John David DeTar of West Brandywine

John David DeTar, 85, of West Brandywine Township, PA passed away on October 6, 2016.

Born in Colon , Panama, John was the son of USN Captain John Leslie DeTar and Frances (Shopland) Cozzone and the brother of Margaret DeBard, all deceased.

He was a graduate of Episcopal Academy and Brown University. An ROTC cadet, he then trained as a naval aviator and served as a fighter pilot during the Korean War. After his service in the navy he was a Pilot for Eastern Airlines for almost 30 years.

John was an avid fisherman who loved traveling and spending time with his family.

He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth H. (nee Amy) DeTar; loving father of Michael DeTar (Nupur), Judith Minette (Michael), Jeanne DeTar, Susan McCullough (Dan), Karen Iuliano (Joe), Andrew DeTar, Chris Heyn (Kimberly) and the late George Richard Heyn, III (Claudia); loving grandfathe­r of Elizabeth, Seth, Sarah, Joseph, David, Amy, Hillary, Laura, Phoebe, Stephanie, Justine, Christophe­r, Alexander, Leah, Julia, Chadeayne, Rees, Liam and Anneke; also survived by 4 greatgrand­children.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday, October 13, 2016 followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church, 2835 Manor Road, West Brandywine, PA. Interment Private.
