Po­lice iden­tify vic­tim in Route 41 fa­tal crash

Po­lice have iden­ti­fied the vic­tim of the fa­tal car crash that oc­curred on Route 41 in West Fallowfield.

WEST FALLOWFIELD >> Po­lice have iden­ti­fied the vic­tim of the fa­tal car crash that oc­curred on Route 41 at Friend­ship Church Road Mon­day.

Po­lice Chief Charles Wil­mont iden­ti­fied the vic­tim as James D. Du­gan, 82, of At­glen.

Du­gan was driv­ing a Volk­swa­gen Jetta when it re­port­edly col­lided with a Toy­ota Ma­trix at that in­ter­sec­tion just be­fore 11 a.m.

A truck driver headed north on Route 41, who did not wish to be iden­ti­fied, said he was fol­low­ing the Jetta when he saw the Toy­ota pull out from the right on Friend­ship Church Road, slow to a near stop, then pull out onto the high­way in front of the Jetta.

Skid marks could be seen on the road­way near where the Jetta came to a rest. The Toy­ota came to a stop a cou­ple hun­dred feet to the north.

Du­gan re­ceived CPR by a passerby; how­ever, he was pro­nounced dead at the scene.

Po­lice iden­ti­fied the sec­ond driver as Joe R. Coney II, 63, of Cochranville, who was trans­ported to Lan­caster Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal with non-life-threat­en­ing in­juries.

Cochranville Fire Com­pany, Chris­tiana Am­bu­lance, Key­stone Val­ley Am­bu­lance, South­ern Ch­ester County Paramedics, and Brandy­wine Hos­pi­tal Paramedics re­sponded to the crash.

The Ma­jor Ac­ci­dent Re­con­struc­tion Team had Route 41 closed for most of Mon­day af­ter­noon as it in­ves­ti­gated the cause of the crash, which re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion by West Fallowfield po­lice.
