Police have identified the victim of the fatal car crash that occurred on Route 41 in West Fallowfield.
WEST FALLOWFIELD >> Police have identified the victim of the fatal car crash that occurred on Route 41 at Friendship Church Road Monday.
Police Chief Charles Wilmont identified the victim as James D. Dugan, 82, of Atglen.
Dugan was driving a Volkswagen Jetta when it reportedly collided with a Toyota Matrix at that intersection just before 11 a.m.
A truck driver headed north on Route 41, who did not wish to be identified, said he was following the Jetta when he saw the Toyota pull out from the right on Friendship Church Road, slow to a near stop, then pull out onto the highway in front of the Jetta.
Skid marks could be seen on the roadway near where the Jetta came to a rest. The Toyota came to a stop a couple hundred feet to the north.
Dugan received CPR by a passerby; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the second driver as Joe R. Coney II, 63, of Cochranville, who was transported to Lancaster General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Cochranville Fire Company, Christiana Ambulance, Keystone Valley Ambulance, Southern Chester County Paramedics, and Brandywine Hospital Paramedics responded to the crash.
The Major Accident Reconstruction Team had Route 41 closed for most of Monday afternoon as it investigated the cause of the crash, which remains under investigation by West Fallowfield police.
