Great Valley staves off Avon Grove
Thea Howard had two goals and an assist as Great Valley held off Avon Grove, 4-3, in a Ches-Mont League girls soccer contest.
Sarah Schultz and Cassidy Hoops also scored for the Patriots (5-5).
Emma Roberts recorded a pair of goals for the Red Devils (5-5). the Hurricanes (6-4, 9-5) in the AACA win. Maya Duke, Grace Wellman and midfielder Sophia Cozzone played well offensively, while Allison Van Grinsven was a standout on defense.
Field Hockey
DOWNINGTOWN WEST 7, GREAT VALLEY 0 >> Romea Riccardo and Julianna Smyth had two goals each as the Whippets (10-0, 122) collected the Ches-Mont triumph. West recorded its 12th shutout of the season. CONESTOGA 8, PENNCREST 0 >> Meredith Ross, Charlotte de Vries and Carly Ackerman had two goals each as the Pioneers (7-0, 12-1) recorded the Central League win. Stephanie Hamilton and Emma McGillis also scored.
Volleyball
WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 3, ACADEMY PARK 1 >> Amelia Constable had seven kills to help the Warriors win the nonleague contest, 25-3, 2510, 22-25, 25-16. Julia Giunta added five aces and Allie Debreau added six aces and 29 assists.
DOWNINGTOWN WEST 3, PENNCREST 1 >> Aly Reardon collected 12 kills and four aces as the Whippets (11-2) won the nonleague contest in four sets, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20. Sophie Gelling had seven kills and five blocks, Kenzie Pincura had 10 kills and six aces. Alex Kenny recorded 13 digs and eight assists and Haley Lewis added five kills and five aces.
WEST CHESTER EAST 3, RIDLEY0>> Ali Ward has 14 kills and 19 digs for the Vikings in the nonleague win. Taylor Crawford has 25 assists, while Sophia Francisco and Kelly Dickerson had 18 digs each.
SUN VALLEY 3, OXFORD 0 >> Logan Wolfe had four kills, two aces and three blocks as the Hornets fell, 25-19, 25-17, 25-21. Maddie Hamilton added nine assists and Nikki Jones had 14 digs.
College Women’s Soccer
IMMACULATA 5, ROSEMONT 1>> Kyle Jumalon had two goals and two assists as the Mighty Macs (3-1, 8-41) won the CSAC contest. Alex Noel, Mark Staudenmayer and Nick Boule also scored for Immaculata.
Men’s Soccer
WEST CHESTER 2, EAST STROUDSBURG 1, OT >> West Chester’s sophomore midfielder Tyler Rapposelli registered the game-winning goal to lift the Golden Rams over visiting East Stroudsburg in double overtime. Junior forward Giovanni Mowrey found an open Rapposelli racing down the far side of the field to pull out the victory for the Golden Rams (8-3-2, 5-1-1 PSAC).
Volleyball
WEST CHESTER 3, CHEYNEY 0 >> Cheyney University women’s volleyball fell in three sets to crosstown rival West Chester. Chelsea Hutson led the Wolves (2-12, 0-7) with five kills and 13 digs. Virshawna Campbell registered four kills and seven digs.
The Golden Rams (155, 3-4) were led by Abbie Dischert with 13 kills and Jillian Grammer’s 24 assists.
