Donald R. Hitner of Guthriesville
Donald R. “Don” Hitner, 83, of Guthriesville, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Neighborhood Hospice of West Chester. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (nee DiPiano) Hitner, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born in Conshohocken, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillian Risell Hitner.
Don was a graduate of Conshohocken High School. He then went on to be employed by PennDot at the West Chester maintenance facility, most recently as assistant manager, retiring in 2002 with 44 years’ service.
Having an interest in sports, Don was a fan of the Phillies. For many years, Don followed the Downingtown High School Football team. You would regularly see him on the sidelines and he was almost like a staff member. He also followed Downingtown Girls’ Basketball and was considered a “super fan,” helping with statistics, and attending their events. Don was active at the Brandywine YMCA where many considered him as an unofficial greeter.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by a son, Tom Hitner, of Coatesville; daughters, Andrea (Chris Altemus) Hitner, of Charlotte, NC, Sarah (Patrick Quigley) Hitner, of Vancouver, BC, and Chrissy Poth, of Guthriesville; sister, Lorraine Guarino, of Harleysville; a niece, Bettianne Carline, of Naperville, IL; 5 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful canine companion, Nici. He was predeceased by brothers, James and Robert Hitner.
