Daily Local News (West Chester, PA) - - THE MERCURY - By Pete Bannan

A motorist was killed in a Monday morning crash on Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) and Friendship Church Road.

According to officials at the scene, a Volkswagen Jetta reportedly collided with a Toyota Matrix at that intersection, killing the driver of the Volkswagen.

A truck driver headed north on Route 41, who did not wish to be identified, said he was following the Jetta when he saw the Toyota pull out from the right on Friendship Church Road, slow to a near stop, then pull out onto the highway in front of the Jetta.

Skid marks could be seen on the roadway near where the Jetta came to a rest. The Toyota came to a stop a couple hundred feet to the north.

Cochranville Fire Company, Christiana Ambulance, along with Southern Chester County Paramedics, responded to the crash before 11 a.m.

Radio reports indicated that passing firefighters stopped to render aid, including CPR, however the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased was not released.

The second driver was treated by Brandywine Hospital Medics and Keystone Valley Ambulance. The condition of the second driver was unknown.

The Major Accident Reconstruction Team had Route 41 closed into the afternoon as it investigated the cause of the crash.
