Betty Thompson Norman died on November 20, 2016 at Moravian Manor, Lititz, PA, in the arms of her daughter, after a long affliction with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 90 years old.

Betty was born in New Bern, NC to Dorothy and William H. Thompson, lived in Roper, NC and Lynchburg, VA with her beloved family including her late sister, Dorothy Jane Rea. She graduated from Randolph Macon College, Lynchburg, VA. She lived most of her adult life in Pennsylvan­ia after meeting her late husband on a date in her hometown.

Betty was an active member of the Episcopali­an church, serving as the Planned Giving Officer for the Diocese of Central Pennsylvan­ia. She also wore numerous other hats in her lifetime from homemaker to physical therapy aid at both Chester County and Paoli Hospitals, tax preparer, seamstress selling her creations to children’s boutiques, driver/escort for the elderly, fundraiser, tour guide, and most of all a planner.

Betty also enjoyed counted cross stich needlepoin­t, vacationin­g at the family cabin in Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA and Nags Head, NC where her southern and northern family would unite each summer. She is best known for her planning and leading tours of Switzerlan­d for many small groups. During her lifetime she traveled to Switzerlan­d more than 50 times. Betty was known for her creativity and resourcefu­lness. One of her more memorable feats was her 3 week escape from assisted living to Switzerlan­d at age 82.

Betty was the widow of Rev. John R. Norman, Jr. and is survived by her son Paul Norman; daughter Joan Norman Vogel; and three grandchild­ren: David Norman, Alexander Norman, and Emily Vogel. She also has four nephews and three nieces.

Her family and friends will be celebratin­g her life on December 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1105 E. Lincoln Hwy, Exton, PA.
