Downtown Phoenixville is set to host two major events that are sure to bring in thousands of spectators from across the region.

The weekend kicks off with the 10th annual Kiwanis holiday parade and tree lighting ceremony tonight, followed by the 13th annual Phoenixville Firebird Festival on Saturday.

The holiday parade and tree lighting ceremony begins at 7 p.m. This familyfriendly event that features bands, service clubs and floats is sure to help residents fill up with Yuletide cheer.

The parade starts at Borough Hall and continues down Bridge Street until it reaches Starr Street. The tree lighting ceremony will follow the parade. The best decorated fire truck and float win $250 each by carefully-selected judges. Plus, the big guy himself, Santa Claus, is taking a break from the North Pole to help usher in the holidays.

Then on Saturday is the return of the Phoenixville Firebird Festival. The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. with music in 24 store locations and street performers in the downtown area from 3-7 p.m. The 200 block of Bridge Street will be closed to allow craft and food vendors to set up shop. Then at 7:30 p.m. the procession to Friendship Field will begin from Bridge Street. Shuttle buses will be available from 6-11 p.m. for those who don’t want to walk. Then the grand finale, the lighting of the Phoenix, begins at 8:15 p.m.
