The Daily Local News unveils a new app — free of charge
Just in time for the holiday season, Digital First Media, the parent company of the Daily Local News, has rolled out a new app for its readership, free of charge.
Free to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes, the new app features a fresh, clean look that lets users easily and quickly navigate to the news, sports, entertainment and business stories that are most important to them.
“We wanted to stress speed and ease of use,” said Dave Elchoness, senior vice president of products and technology at Digital First Media. “We’re optimizing across the board.”
Users that want to make the most out of the app should also opt to receive notifications in order to stay alert for breaking news.
Elchoness said everything was developed in house, in order to give the new app the flexibility and speed it needed to cater to a changing marketplace.
Complete with a new color scheme, users can take their pick of local, national, and international content from various news outlets across the world.
“We found the old app to be a little dated,” he said.
In addition to new apps for mobile phones, Digital First Media is also planning on rolling out new websites for their news organizations across the country.
The websites are meant to improve the look and feel of the web sites are meant to improve flexibility for managers and help the company pivot towards the future.
Some of Digital First Media’s holdings, such as the Denver (Colorado) Post and The Mercury (California) News, have already been upgraded with more planned in the future.
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Digital First Media is the country’s second largest newspaper chain.
