Safety Jenkins playing at Pro-Bowl level

PHILADELPHIA >> Long after his third pick-six with the Eagles, including his second this season, safety Malcolm Jenkins spoke of the number he enjoyed most Thursday night.

That would be one, as in the 24-19 victory over the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles were 0-6 in one-score games this season.

“This has been the same thing that we’ve done really over the entire season,” Jenkins said. “We just found a way to come out on top at the end. All these games have been close and the margin of error for our team is very small. It’s going to take some spectacular efforts for us to really put out there … We just have to find a way to make those one or two plays to put us out in front and today we found those plays.”

The way Jenkins and fellow safety Rodney McLeod have played, it’s hard to believe Jenkins is the fourth alternate to the Pro Bowl, with McLeod a second alternate. Then again McLeod had a good first month when the Eagles were winning while Jenkins has collected all three of his interceptions, including two of Eli Manning, when the Birds were losing.

“I hadn’t had as many opportunities as I did last year,” Jenkins said. “I think I’ve done a better job of kind of capitalizing on those. But that was (an) emphasis coming into the year in just making sure I take advantage of any opportunities that I have.

“I’ve just been patient all year, just trying to wait for those opportunities and I was able to capitalize on a couple today.”

*** On the injury front, guard Allen Barbre was unable to complete his second straight game with the Eagles, having reinjured his hamstring.

Don’t look for him in the season finale against the Cowboys.

Head coach Doug Pederson said linebacker Jordan Hicks has an ankle sprain but should “be fine for next week.”

Safety Jaylen Watkins is in the concussion protocol.

Running back Ryan Mathews is done for the season with a herniated disc in his neck.

*** Eagles kicker Caleb Sturgis converted one field goal to tie David Akers (2008) for the all-time single-season record with 33 field goals.

Sturgis is 33 of 38 in field goals and 27 of 28 in PATs for 126 points, the sixth-most in a single season for the Eagles.

Sturgis reached those totals with a 41-yard field goal. He’s 11 of 16 in field goals of 40 or more yards, including four-for-six beyond 50 yards. One of the 40-yard attempts was blocked.
