William A. Slawter, formerly of Chadds Ford
Bill, formerly of Cardington, Upper Darby, Chadds Ford and recently of Birdsboro, passed on 12/21/16 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Donovan), his brother Louis Z. Slawter Jr, his sister, Mariana Raypole, and parents Louis & Veronica (Sweigart) Slawter.
Bill is survived by his loving companion Jane Moses, son William Jr. his daughter in law Valerie, daughter Maryfrances Slawter and her fiancé Ed McCann, son Jared Slawter and his wife Loretta, and daughter Amanda. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren: Brittany Reiger, Bridget Slawter, Jessica Folk, Justin Slawter, Brandon Archambo, Kiersten Slawter, Bryan Archambo, Brooke Archambo and great grandchildren: Benelli, Adeline, and Gunner Reiger.
Bill’s life long career was insurance, but Bill had a great passion for sports. He played semiprofessional soccer, finishing his soccer career into his 70’s as a referee. Bill was a season ticket holder since their debut, of his beloved Philadelphia Union. He only missed games when he was hospitalized. Bill enjoyed sharing time with all of his children and grandchildren, attending every event he could. He was active in the church choir at St. Francis De Sales prior to his illness. Bill also was a former member of the Cardington-Stonehurst Fire Co. #4, Upper Darby Jaycees, founding member of the Jaycees HIPID organization, and the startup of the Delaware County YMCA Indian Guides, Trailblazer, and Indian Princess Organizations. He was also heavily involved in “The Heralds” annual Easter performances of “Celebrate Life” program, as well as a volunteer at the Brandywine Museum and the Forrest Theatre.
Bill’s immediate family will be greeting friends and other members of his family from 10am to 12 noon Wednesday, 12-28-16, at Vraim Funeral Home, Inc., 66 South State Rd., Upper Darby, PA 19082 followed by a 1pm service at St. Frances De Sales Church, 35 New Rd., Aston, PA. Bill’s wish at the ceremony is to celebrate life with participants wearing bright colors, smiles and joyous singing.
In lieu of flowers, it was Bill’s request that people contribute to the charity of their choice.
