Agnes T. Mento (nee Pizzi), 100, of Downingtow­n, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at St. Martha Manor. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew “Sid” Mento, with whom she shared 35 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1977.

Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Anna Saccuto Pizzi. Agnes’ parents passed away when she was very young, and she was raised by her aunt and uncle, James and Theresa Sack, who treated her like she was their own daughter.

Agnes was a life-time member of St. Joseph Church in Downingtow­n. She loved to travel and was a member of the Prime Timers, the Woman’s Auxiliary of St. Anthony’s Lodge and the Auxiliary of Alert Fire Hall. She worked for Pepperidge Farm in Downingtow­n for 15 years. Agnes was known for her baking, especially her strawberry cake.

She loved family traditions and was happiest sharing them with her family.

Agnes is survived by her daughters, Veronica Bird, Janis McCloy and Susan Spriggs; her sons, Andrew W. Mento (Linda) and Stephen Mento; a brother, Elmer “Mac” Pizzi; 13 grandchild­ren and 13 great grandchild­ren. She was predecease­d by her infant son, Daniel; a brother, Gantano Pizzi; sisters, Yolanda Pizzi, Angela Colletti and Adele Muzio; a grandson, Matthew McCloy; a great grandson, Dylan Spriggs and by sonin-laws, George Bird and Richard McCloy.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Avenue, Downingtow­n, Pa 19335. Family and friends will be received from 9:00-10:45 am.

Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtow­n.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to St. Joseph Church Building Fund at the above address.
