Clarence Wayne Smith, 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 24, 2016. He was born February 8, 1924 and was the son of the late Thomas Harold Smith and Edith Mattson Smith. He was the husband of Barbara Rubincam Smith with whom he enjoyed and shared many wonderful years of marriage.

Wayne, as he was known, was employed by the former Lukens Steel Company in Coatesvill­e as a welder and crane operator. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service. Wayne enjoyed traveling with his wife Barbara to many wonderful and interestin­g places. Wayne enjoyed reading the Bible, listening to hymns and gospel songs and old time country music. Wayne loved to read and study about history. He had a love for all animals and enjoyed birdwatchi­ng. He collected coins and stamps and in younger days enjoyed working on his car.

Wayne was a Phillies baseball fan and enjoyed following their progress. Wayne loved his Martin Guitar and many years ago, had performed with his family at Sunset Park. Wayne was a member of the former Presbyteri­an Church of Coatesvill­e, now Coatesvill­e Bible Fellowship, where he had been a member of the Jonathan Class and where he and his wife Barbara were married.

He also attended Church of the Savior in Wayne and was a member of the Chester County Historical Society, Friends of Chester County Library and Ocean City, New Jersey Historical Museum. Wayne and his wife Barbara enjoyed attending shows at the Lancaster Mennonite High School and the American Music Theater where they would meet the performers and get pictures and autographs.

Wayne’s funeral service and interment will be held privately.
