EAST PIKELAND >> With the holidays over, East Pikeland Township is encouraging residents to recycle their Christmas trees rather than just throw them away. Residents have two choices for recycling Christmas trees: they can either drop the tree off themselves at the township compost yard, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or from Jan. 3-31, the public works department will conduct a curbside pick-up of Christmas trees. The pick-up program will be conducted weather permitting.

Whether you participate in the drop-off or curbside Christmas tree recycling program follow these guidelines:

• Strip tree of all ornaments.

• Do not wrap the tree in plastic or it will not be picked up.

• Do not place the tree at curbside with your trash or your trash hauler will take it and it will not be recycled.

The trees will be recycled by being chipped up for wood mulch that is then made available to township residents in the spring to use for gardening. If you have any questions, contact the township office at (610) 933-1770.
