Downingtow­n East girls knock Coatesvill­e off its perfect perch

Bella Smuda scored 18 points as Downingtow­n East rallied in the second half to post a 46-44 ChesMont League National Division girls basketball victory over Coatesvill­e on Tuesday.

The loss was the first in the division for the Red Raiders (4-1, 9-3), to put them one game behind Henderson. They host the Warriors on Thursday.

Erin Phelan added 13 points and Olivia Williams 11 for the Cougars (3-1), who outscored Coatesvill­e, 30-21 in the second half to erase a 23-16 halftime deficit.

Dee Dee Irwin led Coatesvill­e with 18 points and Megan Stanton had 12.

Maddie Shanahan had 11 points and Grace Schrof had eight as the Indians (3-1) posted the ChesMont American victory.

Sadie Buzan led the Patriots (2-3, 4-7) with 14 points.

Marissa Picinich had 16 points and Abby Walheim added 15 points and seven rebounds as the Hurricanes (4-1, 7-4) used a 21-7 third quarter for the AACA victory. Myrrin Tague had 14 points and five assists. Paig Lauder chipped in six points and seven rebounds.

The Pionners (7-0 12-0) remained unbeaten as Katie Mayock led the way with 16 points in the Cen- tral League victory. BISHOP SHANAHAN 53, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 45 » Courtney Warley had 15 points and Sammi McCarter had 10 as the Eagles (2-2, 6-5) used a big third quarter to post the ChesMont National win.

Halle Brown scored 19 points for the Whippets (22, 5-8). OXFORD 56, OCTORARA 10 » Miranda Porretta poured in 21 points and Emily Shallow had 10 as the Hornets rolled to the Ches-Mont American victory.

Jesse Himerlight had four points for the Braves.

Marissa McDonald led the way with 16 points for the Vikings (4-7) in the Ches-Mont National victory, Kayla Yoe- gel had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Caroline Lewis chipped in 10.

Emma Bertrando scored nine of her 14 points in the third quarter as the Warriors (10-2) posted the nonleague victory. Bert- rando also had nine rebounds and five assists. Viki Kneis also had 14 points and Abby Shea added 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Maggie O’Hare paced the Golden Knights with 15 points.

Boys Basketball

CONESTOGA 51, HAVERFORD HIGH 28 » Pioneers coach Mike Troy recorded his 299th career victory. Scott Shapiro led Conestoga (7-0, 10-1) with 13 points in the Central League win.

Zhion Wesley netted 16 points and Zaire ToliverHar­rison added 10 as the Cougars (2-1, 4-8) fell in the Tri-County contest. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 39, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 37 » Jake Nelson scored 15 points as the Golden Knights edged the Warriors in the nonleague contest.

Chuck Smith tossed in 19 points to lead Henderson.

Liam Ward had 10 points as the Patriots (50, 9-4) rolled to the ChesMont victory. They held the Indians (1-3, 4-7) scoreless in the third quarter to build a 26-18 lead.

Joe Zubilaga paced Unionville with six points.

Thomas Cruz scored 23 points and Brian Dorsey added 21 to lead the Hornets (3-1, 3-4) to the ChesMont American victory.

Jamonti Mayo had 12 points for the Braves. BISHOP SHANAHAN 46, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 35 » Thomas Ford had 13 points as the Eagles (3-1, 7-5) quelled a third-period rally en route to the Ches-Mont National victory. Shanahan went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

George Gordon paced the Whippets with 11 points.

Ben Lesher scored six of his game-high 17 points in overtime to give the Blue Demons (1-3, 2-8) their first Ches-Mont American win of the season. Mitch Kosara added 16 points and Owen Dougherty nailed five three-pointer for all o his 15 points.

Brandon McCullough had 17 points as the Red Devils rolled to the Ches-Mont National win.

Zae Murrey had 15 points for the Vikings.

Boys Swimming

MALVERN PREP 107, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 78 » The Friars (1-0, 4-1) opened up their Inter-Ac season with the victory. Zach Maher led the way as a triple winner, while Dan Waterland, Lou Franzone, Connor Cary and Matt Magness were double winners. Maher was first in the 50 free (22.86) and 100 fly (53.37) and teamed with Franzone, Magness and Cary to win the 400 free relay (3:17.86). Waterland was first in the 200 IM (2:02.08) and 100 back (56.30), Franzone won the 100 free (49.36) while Magness and Cary teamed with Ryan Maher and Chris Hincks to also win the 200 free relay (1:30.97). Trevor Henderson had a personal best score of 218.50 to win diving.
