Driver killed in one-car accident

Fatal crash was third in 24 hours, fourth this week in county

A driver was killed early Thursday morning in a single-car crash, according to police.

The Caln Township Police Department responded to the crash in the 3800 block of Kings Highway (Route 340) on Thursday at 12:53 a.m. Police said the sole occupant, Donna Quartapell­a, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding Emergency Medical Technician­s. Police identified the driver as Quartapell­a, 53, of West Caln.

Police said the preliminar­y investigat­ion revealed that her car left the roadway and struck a tree. A passerby, who observed the wrecked vehicle after the crash, summoned emergency responders. The cause of the crash remains under investigat­ion.

Paramedics from Brandywine Hospital were on scene, as well as the Thorndale Fire Company. The coroner responded directly to the scene.

It was third reported fatal crash in Chester County within 24 hours and the fourth this week.

On Monday, a head-on crash left one man dead after police responded to a crash at Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and Flowing Springs Road at around 5:40 p.m in South Coventry.

Then during Wednesday morning’ surprise ice conditions, two motorists were killed in two separate accidents.

A man in his 50s died when his truck left the road and hit a tree on Horseshoe Pike (Route 322) near Cupola Road in Honey Brook Township at 6:24 a.m.

Then at 7:45 a.m., po- lice said that a 30-year-old woman died in a one-car accident in the 300 block of Little Washington Road in East Brandywine Township.

Icy road conditions were blamed for numerous accidents Wednesday morning.
