Author’s roots and writings honed at Radnor High
Remember when going to school was your “job?” Homework, tests, essays and getting ready for SATs were not only of the utmost importance, but could determine one’s future endeavors at a university or for a job. Fast forward to 2017 and learn about an organization that’s been providing a different take on educational and recreational learning opportunities that are aimed at adults, for nearly 80 years. It’s Main Line School Night (MLSN) that gets high grades for keeping students matriculating for life in many unique ways.
A sold-out lecture, recently held at Cabrini College’s Woodcrest Mansion, was another great reminder of just how important MLSN’s presence is and has been for this community. The occasion being celebrated was the return to these environs of an educated author, screen play producer and now “Manhattenite,” Todd Komarnicki. Attendees were not only anxious to hear about the local boy who’d succeeded at his craft, but also to get a gander at the one time home of Campbell Soup founder John Dorrance where the function was held.
Emceed by event sponsor Kevin Nolan the assemblage got a good read on what it’s really like to be an author or motion picture producer. Komarnicki was quick to acknowledge and point out the pitfalls involved in such endeavors, as well as the sense of satisfaction when the story works or the movie becomes a hit with audiences.
He confessed that it was the constant urging of Clint Eastwood, along with listening to what he terms “answer to prayer,” that finally got the playwright going on a script about US Airways flight 1549 along with the story of Sully Sullenberger and his miraculous landing on the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009.
Before the sit-down with Komarnicki, teachers, instructors and moderators, who help make MLSN’s classes, seminars, trips, outings or programs run smoothly and efficiently, were recognized and honored for being integral parts of the equation in keeping those with continued curiosity occupied.
