11 seniors inducted into Science National Honor Society
Eleven Devon Prep seniors were recently inducted into the school’s chapter of the Science National Honor Society (SNHS) during a ceremony in Calasanctius Hall on campus. The induction included a candle lighting ceremony and the presentation of the inductees. Headmaster Fr. Francisco Aisa, Sch.P. opened with a prayer, Science Department Chairperson Ms. Melanie Picard conducted the ceremony, and Mr. Roger Mecouch, Director of Curriculum and a member of the science department faculty, served as the guest speaker. The seniors received certificates, pins and honor cords to wear at graduation.
The new inductees include: Michael Bonfiglio of Collegeville, Zachary Eidman of Collegeville, Luke Farnsworth of Royersford, Thomas Hang of Malvern, David Haruch of Media, Kevin Holmes of Ardmore, Tyler Keough of Collegeville, Jacob Klick of Narberth, Benjamin Lubker of West Chester, Hayden Ludt of Chester Springs and Daniel Shannon of Royersford.
The Science National Honor Society was organized with the following objectives: to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought; to advance student’s knowledge of classical and modern science; to communicate with the scientific community; to aid the civic community with its comprehension of science and to encourage students to participate in community service, and in turn encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all mankind.
In order to participate in the Honor Society each inductee must be classified as either a junior or senior; have credit for at least one AP science course during or prior to their junior year; must be enrolled in at least a single second year AP science course during or prior to their senior year; and must maintain a B+ average (at least an 87%) in all science courses.
