Villa Maria falls short at St. Basil

The Villa Maria girls bas- ketball squad ran into a tough defensive foe in St. Basil, and dropped a 56-32 road decision in AACA action on Monday. Abby Walheim and Paige Lauder each scored 10 points for the Hurricanes, who fall to 7-2, 11-6 overall.

Marissa Picinich chipped in eight points and nine rebounds for Villa Maria, who was outscored by 13 points in the second half.

Boys’ Hockey

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 10, AVON GROVE 0 >> The Cougars blanked the Red Devils in Ches-Mont action. Alex Fox and Luca Pisani each scored two goals for East. In goal, Matt Shandler pushed aside 13 shots and registered the save.

College Men’s Baskeball

LINCOLN’S DAVIS NAMED CIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK >> Lincoln basketball player Joshua Davis was named the Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n men’s basketball player of the Week for his performanc­e during the week ending Jan. 22. Davis is the second men’s basketball player to earn a weekly award this season, joining Cameron Campbell who was CIAA Rookie of the Week for the week earlier this month.

A senior forward, Davis recorded double-doubles in both of the Lions’ games last week as Lincoln went 1-1, defeating Elizabeth City State and falling at Virginia Union in double overtime. He shot 54.5% vs. Elizabeth City, notching 20 points and ten rebounds. Against Virginia Union, Davis added 14 points and 11 rebounds. For the week, Davis averaged 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals in two games. He tallied 34 points shooting 40.7% from the field.
