WEST CHESTER >> Smoking marijuana can be hazardous to your health — or so some experts would like the public to believe. Recently, a Chester County man learned that the hard way.

The man, who was not identified by state police in a criminal complaint filed in West Chester District Court, was pistolwhipped by an acquaintance who he had met in order to buy and smoke the drug. The friend, along with another man, allegedly wound up taking the victim’s wallet, cellphone, book bag and $40 in cash.

On Tuesday, James Treylee Davis was arraigned on charges of robbery, theft by unlawful taking, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment in connection with the October 2016 incident in West Bradford.

Davis, who had been apprehended on a fugitive arrest warrant on Friday, was taken back to Chester County Prison after magisterial District Judge Mark Bruno set his bail at $10,000 cash. A preliminary hearing was set for next Tuesday.

According to the criminal complaint filed by state Trooper Zachary Fronk, Davis, 23, of Coatesville, met the alleged victim before 6 p.m. on Oct. 16 after they had connected via Facebook and made plans to meet in Caln so they could go to Coatesville and buy

marijuana.

The unidentified man told Fronk that he and Davis had been doing he same thing for several months, meeting at least 10 times to buy and smoke marijuana. But this time Davis was accompanied by another man, who he knew only as “Eric” or “E.”

The three men drove around the area for about 15 minutes before they stopped at a trailer. The alleged victim told police that Eric tried, but failed, to unlock the door to the trailer, when suddenly Davis pulled out a gun and put it against his side. The victim, seeing that the weapon was a BB gun, grabbed it, but Davis allegedly struck him with it in the back of the head.

After he was struck multiple

times, the man said, he stopped resisting and allowed Davis and Eric to take his possessions. The men then left.

Fronk met the victim outside the location where the alleged robbery had taken place in the 100 block of Glenside Road, West Bradford, When he spoke with the man, Frock said he could see him bleeding from his head.

The second suspect was later identified as Eric Mayo, 21, of Downingtown. He was arrested and waived a preliminary hearing on robbery and theft charges in November.
