Berwyn woman appears on ‘Jeopardy!’
‘It’s way different from watching at home’
BERWYN >> The category is: game show contestants. The answer is: Who is Lisa Schlitt? The Berwyn resident appeared on “Jeopardy!” last night.
Schlitt, a microbiologist who works for the New Jersey Department of Health, was thrilled to be on the game show that she grew up watching with her dad.
“My dad was always interested in it and that got me into it,” Schlitt said.
“It was a complete surprise,” she said about being chosen. “I was at work and got a call.” She had applied online, taking a timed test and then was called in for more testing with others in a group, she said. She learned she was to be a contestant about month in advance so she practiced the timing for answering the questions. One of the hardest things was ringing in at the right moment after host Alex Trebek finished speaking not before.
Schlitt was a little nervous on stage but the cameras are off to the side on the set, she said. She was thinking, “Holy crap, I’m standing here,” she said. “It’s way different than watching at home.”
There were some tricky questions and the other contestants that she was pitted against were very smart, she said.
“I remember the ones that I got wrong,” she said. Trebek was “pretty funny” and “pretty nice.” Schlitt and the other contestants got to talk with him after the show and “schmooze a bit.”
Schlitt grew up on Long Island, New York and went to Cornell University. She moved to Berwyn about a year and a half ago to live near family, she said.
While the show was filmed in the fall, it will air at 7 p.m. Friday on ABC Channel 6. Jeopardy with Trebek at host is in its 33rd season in syndication and boasts 23 million viewers each week.
