Center for Families opens new facility
The center is a mental health resource
The Center for Families at Malvern officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new facility.
EAST WHITELAND >> The Center for Families at Malvern officially opened Feb. 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new facility at 101 Phoenixville Pike.
Chamber of Commerce representatives attended to welcome this new mental health resource to the community.
Employees noted that the Center for Families, the first of its kind in the greater Philadelphia area, is a safe place for teens and families to find support, education, and sustainable healing for mental health and substance abuse struggles. Staffed by clinicians with more than 100 years of combined experience in the field of adolescent mental health, the center staff walks parents and teens through all stages of the healing process and addresses specific needs of each family.
“The research illustrates that parent involvement in treatment
is the single largest indicator for positive outcomes,” said Caroline Fenkel, MSS, LSW, manager of the Center for Families. “This important research, combined with my own experience providing direct clinical care to local families, has crystallized the need for the center in this community.”
Fenkel noted that with suicide rates on the rise, tripling since 1999 among girls 10 to 14, with the second highest increase among boys of the same age, ready

access to tools for mental health and sustainable healing has “become increasingly important.”
The Center offers parent-to-parent support groups for parents of children in treatment, therapy, and recovery, as well as teen support groups educating teens in substance use awareness, emotional self-regulation, and healthy coping skills. Clinical therapy and educational workshops are also provided at the center.
