Marian May Brown, formerly of Coatesville
Marian May Brown, beloved sister and aunt, passed away at the age of 89 on February 7, 2017 in Canton, OH.
Born in Elverson, she was daughter of George and Elsie (Eppehimer) Brown.
She graduated from Scott Senior High School, Coatesville, and Kutztown (PA) State College, majoring in art education and working summers as craft director at the YMCA Camp Chesapeake. She taught art in Claysburg Schools for 6 years.
She spent 4 years in mission work at Boylan-Haven boarding school for girls in Jacksonville, FL.
Marian taught in Saginaw, MI public schools for 22 years, where she was a positive force for integration. She earned her Master’s degree at Michigan State University.
She retired to Florida, and she continued practicing her art. Marian was an accomplished artist in many mediums, pioneering a particular technique for multicolor scratch board. Examples of her art decorate the homes of many family members and friends.
She is survived by brother Raymond Brown of New Garden and sister Beverly Johnson of Elverson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 24, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10am at the Olivet United Methodist Church, Coatesville.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville.
Memorial may be made to the Olivet United Methodist Church Food Ministry, 310 E. Chestnut St., Coatesville, PA 19320.
