Rustin grad Ridgeway earns honor

Kutztown University junior and West Chester Rustin graduate Ethan Ridgeway was named to the AllPennsyl­vania State Athletic Conference men’s basketball first team on Thursday.

Ridgeway has burst on the scene in his first year as a starter. He leads the PSAC and ranks second in all of Division II at 9.0 assists per game. He is the school-record holder for assists in a game (14 on three occasions), season (243), and as a junior, became the career record holder Wednesday night with 448 in 85 games (5.3 career average). His 243 assists this year stand ninth all-time in PSAC single-season history.

Scoring wise, Ridgeway averages a career-high 14.6 points per game and has risen to ninth in single-season school history with 130 made free throws. Notably, he made all 10 attempts in a game last week to put him among the school-record holders for percentage in a game. He is in a stretch of three-straight double-doubles and eight this season.

Defensivel­y, he ranks fifth in the PSAC in steals at 1.9 per game.

IMMACULATA 14, WILKES 9

» Layne Kennedy had five goals and Hannah Verrecchia addded three first-half goals as the Mighty Macs won their season opener. In the first half, the Colonels opened up the scoring two minutes into the half when Jessyca Held took an assist from Kyra Boccio to put the Colonels up, 1-0. The Mighty Macs answered back one minute later when Nicole Dominick scored to tie the score at one goal apiece. A Kennedy goal from Rosemarie Reitman put the Mighty Macs ahead, 2-1, at the 24:11 mark, and Immaculata led the rest of the game. Hannah Verrecchia would end the first half scoring three goals, Dominick and Kennedy chipped in two goals apiece. Brittany Whaley and Meredith Katona added one goal each to help lead the Macs to a 9-6 halftime advantage. Kennedy finished the game with five goals and one assist for six points. Verrecchia had three goals and two assists for five points. Dominick and Reitman each had a pair of tallies, and Reitman added the one assist. Meredith Katona finished with three points on one goal and two assists. Freshman goalie Emily Schumann made nine saves in her debut.
