BMH benefits from Girls Night Out fundraiser

While doctors, nurses, therapists and orderlies meet the everyday and way needs of patients or visitors to Bryn Mawr Hospital (BMH), there is another group at the facility that’s equally attentive to the organization’s needs.…the Women’s Board. So when it came time to have some fun, along with raising funds for the hospital’s Emotional Wellness Center (EWC), a Girls Night Out in late February appeared to be the best way to satisfy all needs. Turned out to be a super idea.

The event, which took place in Newtown Square at Liseter, the former DuPont estate turned Baby Boomer heaven, was packed to the rafters. Gals from all different ages and stages in life were on hand to hear straight talk about females emotional wellbeing, how to recognize when it’s not OK, healthy ways to preserve it when it is and understanding it in others.

Though BMH has the capacity to work with women as inpatients, many are able to be aided by a rigorous outpatient regimen instead. Another important aspect of the EWC is that it is run by women for women, a bond that it would seem easier to establish, as “it takes one to know one,” particularly in the event of postpartum depression, a psychological and biological only females would seem to fully understand.

The event’s finale was a short fashion show put on by Skirt in Bryn Mawr. What the night proved was BMH’s Women’s Board is not “skirting” any of the issues when it comes to promoting feminine health.
