Wawa says it needs to hire 5,000 associates this spring
The area’s favorite convenience store Thursday announced that it is looking to hire 5,000 new workers. Wawa, based in Chester Heights, Delaware County, will add employees at all 700 of its stores in six states.

The Delaware County-based convenience store chain announced Thursday it plans to hire more than 5,000 new associates this spring.
“We are excited to launch our spring hiring campaign to recruit new Wawa associates,” said Dave Filano, manager of talent acquisition at Wawa. “As a company, part of fulfilling lives means adding jobs for new associates, while also providing advancement opportunities for the more than 30,000 Wawa associates who are part of our team. We’re specifically looking for individuals who enjoy serving others, who want to join our team for the busy summer season and as well those who might be interested in the start of a fulfilling career at Wawa.”
The chain is hiring over the next three months for all of its 750 stores across its sixstate operating area. It said it is looking to fill customer service and management level positions
While every store will have job opportunities available, some stores will host open houses called “Wawa Career Wednesdays” on every Wednesday for four straight weeks, beginning March 29 and running through April 19. As part of the Wawa Career Wednesdays, potential associates can receive a brief, first interview, learn more about Wawa’s unique culture, explore career opportunities and discover the important role Wawa associates play in their community, the company said in announcing the campaign.

Wawa pays $10 to $13.50 for customer service associates, according to Bruce.
Pay range for entry level management position is up to $18 an hour; general manager positions up to $83,000 per year.

The company, which already employs more than 30,000 people, said it offers competitive salaries and health benefits as well as flexible schedules and
tuition reimbursements. In addition, through Wawa’s employee stock ownership plan, or ESOP, associates share directly in the company’s growth.
Today, Wawa is 40 percent owned by associates through the ESOP. Nearly half the ESOP is owned by store level associates and store management, the company
said. With more than 11,000 participants, Wawa’s ESOP ranks as one of the Top 10 largest ESOPs in the country, the company added.
Wawa over the last decade has enlarged its stores, offering gasoline sales and hot, made-to-order food offerings. It also has expanded into Florida.
The firm recently started
selling beer at its store on Naamans Creek Road, the first store to do so in Pennsylvania. They have previously sold beer at stores in Virginia and Florida.
