The Berwyn Fire Co. is tapping into a wee bit o’ the Irish for their latest fundraising effort. Green beer, anyone?

How would you like to party this St. Patrick’s Day and get served a frosty mug of Guinness by Berwyn Fire Company Chief Eamon Brazunas, who is 100 percent Irish?

On tap is the first annual Berwyn FC March Madness/ St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser, which will be held at 30 Main, 660 Lancaster Ave., Berwyn, from noon to midnight on Friday, March 17.

The 12-hour event, which is open to the public and emergency responders, will be chock full of activities, said Chairwoman Kathy Clark. Against a background of live Irish music by Ward Mclee (Trinity), patrons will be able to watch NCAA March Madness basketball on flat-screen TVs, participate in a basketball bracket pool, and take part in a fire cocktail competition.

On the second floor, between noon and 4 p.m and from 6 and 10 p.m., attendees can choose corned beef, shepherd’s pie, Guinness ale and other Irish offerings at a Saint Patrick’s Day Buffet. Cost for either the lunch or dinner buffet is $20 per person.

“You’ll walk in happy and you’ll leave happy,” said Clark. “How could you not feel that way?”

And 30 Main, which also supports other volunteer organizations, will donate 15 percent of the day’s proceeds to Berwyn Fire Co.’s fire and ambulance operational fund.

Clark has additional reason to be enthusiastic about the event. Although she is not Irish, her husband, son and daughter are all Irish and she has traveled to the Emerald Isle.

She is particularly pleased that the fundraiser will be held in Berwyn Fire Co.’s coverage area. “This is an opportunity for the public to meet up– close-and- personal those company members who stand ready to save their lives and protect their property. It’s a much more relaxed setting than meeting with them on the fire ground.”

Clark noted that Berwyn FC is reaching out to other commercial establishments who may want to partner with the fire company in its fund-raising efforts. Those interested should Email her at fundraising@berwynfireco.org.
