Police arrest 2 for DUI, 2 for retail theft

DOWNINGTOW­N >> Police arrested a man for suspected DUI with the assistance of another driver who reported it.

Downingtow­n police said that Earle Gray Boyer, 70, of Coatesvill­e, was reportedly driving his vehicle erraticall­y at 1:50 p.m. on March 11 from West Uwchlan Avenue to the parking lot of Lou’s Beverage at 602 East Lancaster Avenue. A witness saw Boyer reportedly hit a guardrail and followed him to Lou’s Beverage after notifying police. Upon approachin­g Boyer, the officer detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from him, according to the police report. Police said when Boyer exited the vehicle he was unable to maintain his balance. Boyer was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and several traffic violations.

DUI

Downingtow­n police said that Jessica Kathryn Holston, 29, of Coatesvill­e, was involved in a onevehicle accident in the 800 block of West Lancaster Avenue at 6:40 p.m. on Jan. 29. Holston was driving her vehicle when she reportedly hit a PECO pole, shearing off and severing the pole, according

to police. After waiting for blood test results, police said she has been charged on March 11 with driving under the influence of controlled substance, careless and reckless driving and other drug-related charges.

Retail theft

Downingtow­n police said that Deborah Alane Thompson, 54, of Coatesvill­e, was stopped in the parking lot of Wegmans Food Markets at 1056 East Lancaster Avenue in East Caln at 1 p.m. on March 16 as she was putting grocery items into her vehicle. Police said that Thompson allegedly took $159.19 worth of various food items that she had not paid for. Thompson was charged with retail theft and she will receive a two-year trespass order from Wegmans, according to the police report.

Downingtow­n police said that Lauryn King, 19, of Exton, was observed placing items into a bag throughout the Wegmans Food Markets in East Caln at 11:30 a.m. on March 10. Police said King allegedly took $15 worth of various food items without paying for the items. King was charged with retail theft and informed she is no longer welcome at Wegmans, according to the police report.

Downingtow­n police said that two juvenile males, ages 13 and 12, one from Glenmoore and one from West Chester, were caught allegedly concealing various items valued at $31.15 into a backpack at Wegmans located in East Caln Township at 6 p.m. on March 10. Both juveniles were turned over to their father, according to the police report.

Theft of services

Downingtow­n police said that Michael C. Bogus, 28, of West Chester, rented a dump trailer in November 2016 from Compact Power Equipment Rental through the Home Depot in East Caln, and did not return the trailer at the end of the rental period. Home Depot contacted police on March 10 after multiple tries to contact Bogus.

Police said the trailer and Bogus were located, the trailer was returned to Home Depot. The total due for the extended rental fees is $1,888.59. Theft of services charges were filed against Bogus.

Theft from a vehicle

Downingtow­n police received a report at 4:30 p.m. on March 11 from a vehicle owner that lives on Holleran Drive in East Caln, stating that a computer was stolen from his vehicle. The owner said the laptop was in a carry bag. The vehicle was parked at his home and for a short time in the 200 block of West Lancaster Avenue. No other items were taken from within the vehicle and the owner is not certain if the vehicle had been locked, according to the police report.
