Shooting victim arrested on gun charge
Police say Keyshaun Butcher illegally possessed a firearm
COATESVILLE >> Police are investigating another shooting that injured one person – a day apart from a separate shooting incident.
Coatesville police said that someone called 911 at 11:05 a.m. Monday to report that a person inside a residence in the 600 block of Coates Street had suffered from a gunshot wound to his leg. Police said they entered the home and made contact with Keyshaun Butcher, 18, of Coatesville, who had been shot in his right calf. Butcher was transported to Brandywine Hospital where he was treated and released.
After he returned home, Butcher went with Coatesville detectives to the police station, where he gave multiple versions about getting robbed by three people, according to police. Initially he told detectives that he was shot in Downingtown, according to the police report. A detective said that Butcher later on admitted that he lied about being in the borough. Downingtown Police Chief Howard Holland said that they did not receive any reports of a
shooting. After a few hours of interviewing, Butcher told the city detectives that the other stories were fabricated, but his last story was accurate, according to the police report. Detectives are continuing to investigate what happened and where.
While Butcher talked with detectives, other police officers had secured a search warrant for Butcher’s residence. Detectives said that during the search, they found a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun with obliterated serial numbers. Police said that Butcher is a convicted felon who cannot legally possess a gun.
Butcher is charged with convicted felon not to possess, possessing a firearm with manufacture number altered and false reports to law enforcement. Butcher was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Michael J. Cabry III on Monday night.
According to his online criminal report, Butcher is in Chester County Prison, unable to post his bail set at $175,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 27 in front of Magisterial District Judge Grover E. Koon.
Coatesville police said that during a separate incident on Sunday night, two people engaged in a confrontation with Aaron Humphrey, who then reportedly pulled a firearm from his waistline and allegedly pointed it at one of the victims. When the confrontation continued, family members of the one victim then attempted to help defuse the situation in the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway at Pennsylvania Avenue, according to the police report.
Police said that Humphrey then allegedly hit one of the
victims in the side of his head with the gun. At that time, the gun discharged and the bullet hit an occupied car that was parked in a nearby lot. No occupant of the car was injured.
After that, Humphrey got into his green sedan, believed to be a Buick, and then reportedly hit the other victim with the front of his car when he left the scene, according to police. Humphrey, 33, of Coatesville, is wanted for aggravated assault and related charges.
